Breeding, raising & training exceptional, versatile Haflinger horses — inquire today!
Today’s breeding program is the renewal of a dream embarked upon over two decades ago when Cedar Lane Farm first made its entry into the world of sport-type Haflinger horses.
We have been fortunate enough to revitalize our program with a new generation of foundation mares, most of whom are the direct descendants of our original horses. We have added new lines in the pursuit of breeding the most exceptional Haflingers possible, and toward this end, we now genetically test all of our horses prior to breeding for ocular Squamous Cell Carcinoma, with all results being reported to a public database accessible online at haflingerscc.com
Af Cedar Lane, we have been breeding, raising and training exceptionally-bred, registerrd Haflinger horses with a combination of love, respect, and excitement since 1998! After a temporary break, we are once again so enthusiastic about our breeding program & our foals.
Our broodmares receive the best of care (as do all horses here!) while in foal, and benefit from an individualized, comprehensive, whole-horse approach to their nutrition, health, exercise, and enrichment. Our mares are bred to both our own and outside stallions, and are closely followed by our equine reproductive specialist from the moment they become part of our breeding program through the successful weaning of their foals, and beyond.
Many of our mares descend from our original, foundation broodmares, and this gives us unique insight into who each mare is, and we tailor everything to create an environment in which they will thrive.
In 2022, on April 14, we welcomed the first foal of our renewed breeding program into the world when “Riva” was born on a quiet, cool spring night. Her wonderful dam, a new addition here, quickly showed herself to be an exceptional mother who is firm yet gentle with her filly, encouraging of her daughter’s growing independence, extending her lessons to her foal to include everything from how to walk politely on lead to how to be respectful of the humans around her. In fact, Penny enjoys the attention of humans just as much as her daughter!
”Riva” (barn name) is better known as an AHR-registered foal named “Riveting of Cedar Lane“. We are beyond excited to see how this bright, kind, outgoing, athletic foal matures! Out of Royal Penny LCO, Riva is by the sensible, athletic 2015 stallion Adrenaline Rush of Genesis. With her dam at 14.2h and her sire at 15.1, we expect Riva to mature to around 14.3-15h. With her natural athleticism, agility, speed, and desire to learn, Riva could one day go just about any direction from show jumping to endurance riding to ranch riding!
Our broodmare manager lives on site, as does the barn owner, and our expectant mares each receive the best of care, with everything tailored not only to their physical needs, but also to their personal and psychological preferences and needs. Our foaling stalls are larger than 15x17, and each mare is monitored via camera 24/7 from approximately 30 days prior to her expected foaling date until the foal is thriving, about a week after birth.
Our foals are handled from nearly the moment of birth, learning to trust in both their dams and the humans around them. We have developed a comprehensive, individually-tailored approach which enables us to start with a newborn foal,“co-raise” them alongside the dam, socialize and expose the foal to an incredible variety of situations and stimuli which will all one day become part of their lives, and we not only gently halter-train our foals from a young age, we teach them to lead, encourage them in learning new skills both independently and with our guidance, respecting both dam and foal at all times.
We currently are able to raise and train our foals, in house, starting with halter training, then progressing when age-appropriate to training to lead, training to recognize and respect vocal cues and commands, all the way through the foundations for and up to basic, generalized training under saddle when old enough.
We are expecting several exceptionally-bred foals for 2023; if potentially interested in adding one of our foals to your own farm and family, please contact us via email, phone or text, today! We want each of our foals to experience the life that is best suited to their unique abilities and preferences, and we would love to speak with you!

Please email us at cedarlan@yahoo.com if you don’t see your questions answered here or if you’d just like to find out more about us!
While we occasionally list horses for sale on our website, the best way of finding out if there are any currently available is by emailing us at cedarlan@yahoo.com. We’d be glad to hear from you!
This is a great question and one we hear frequently!
If you purchase a foal from us, you will have the option of bringing your foal home after she or he is weaned -or- you may enroll your foal in our “Watch Me Grow” program! This program allows you to buy and own your own foal, and — for a time period of your choosing — board them here on our farm where we will raise them alongside our own foals, giving them the best possible start to life and essential foundations to build upon for life. This includes but is not limited to halter training and training to lead, extensive socialization and gentle desensitization, age-and-individual-appropriate training in ground manners and groundwork, all at your discretion. Enrolling your young horse in this program is a wonderful way of choosing the horse that is right for you at a young age and being able to ensure they have access to and will benefit from the very best of care as they grow up. You will be welcome to visit your horse at any time, and if you are at a distance, you will receive bI-weekly updates, including photos and videos, and are welcome to “video-chat” with your horse, if you wish!
Our standard boarding price for horses enrolled in this program will increase if and when you may decide you’d like to advance their training: we offer training in the fundamentals of groundwork and basic starting under saddle at age 3 and up at a reduced rate to those whose horses have been a part of our Watch Me Grow program. We can also offer recommendations and help you arrange for more specialized training, if you desire, as your horse matures!
Each of our horses is a unique individual and have incredibly diverse backgrounds and levels of training. The best way to inquire about the price of a horse in whom you are interested is simply to send us an email at cedarlan@yahoo.com
